Lately I’ve noticed that gas prices can differ by as much as 30 cents in my area. So I’ve started relying on my phone for checking gas prices. Many people recommend Gas Buddy as their favorite. The app is filled with an easy interface and regularly updated pricing.

If you’re looking for something different though, you may want to try out the Where app. Where is kind of like Google Places in that it provides a list of “things to do” in your area. You can tap More > Gas in the app for a section that provides a comprehensive list of gas prices. You can sort the list by distance, price and brand and select the grade of gas you prefer. The prices also seem to be updated more frequently than the prices you’ll find in the Gas Buddy app. That might just be the way it is for my area though.

The disappointing thing is that neither of these apps have a gas prices widget. Both are available free for iOS and Android.
